Allan Ung is the Founder and Principal Consultant at Operational Excellence Consulting, a distinguished management consulting firm dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness and productivity of individuals and organizations.
With over three decades of experience in international consulting and industry, Allan specializes in strategy deployment, customer experience design, and operational excellence. He collaborates with clients across various industries to elevate the customer experience and enhance business performance. Allan's unwavering belief in the synergy between Design Thinking and Lean Thinking drives his commitment to achieving these objectives.
Allan has spearheaded Design Thinking, Lean Six Sigma, and Total Quality initiatives, resulting in marked improvements in quality, turnaround time, productivity, reduced operating costs, and an enhanced customer experience. His extensive experience working with a diverse range of organizations, including government agencies and multinational corporations such as the Royal Government of Bhutan, Ministry of Social & Family Development, Health Sciences Authority (HSA), Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS), Cisco, Micron, Analog Devices (ADI), Tokyo Electron (TEL) and Lam Research has earned him an outstanding reputation in the healthcare industry and technology sector.
Early in his career, Allan served with the Singapore Government Industry Division of the National Productivity Board, assisting organizations in implementing operational excellence and total quality initiatives. He has also held various corporate roles, including Global Program Manager & Lean Six Sigma Black Belt at IBM, APAC Shared Services Group Manager at Microsoft, and APAC Regional Quality Manager at Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
In addition to being a Design Thinking Coach, TWI Master Trainer, and certified Management Consultant in Productivity Improvement (Japan), Allan holds several other certifications, including TPM Instructor (Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance) and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (North Carolina State University). His expertise in Design Thinking has garnered recognition from renowned organizations and institutions worldwide. His training presentations on Design Thinking have reached esteemed clients such as NASA, MIT, Apple, Boeing, Ford, Mercer, Fujitsu, Syngenta and universities across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. He has presented papers at seminars and conferences and published articles on topics related to Lean Management, Total Quality Management, Cost of Quality, and Flexible Manufacturing Systems.
Allan graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was awarded a training award under the Colombo Plan for Technical Cooperation between the Singapore and Japanese Governments for a Counterpart Training Course on Management Consultancy in Productivity Improvement in Japan.
