Allan Ung is a globally recognized authority in operational excellence and organizational transformation. With a distinguished career spanning diverse industries and institutions, Allan has become renowned for integrating Design Thinking with Lean methodologies, enabling organizations to create sustainable, customer-centric solutions that deliver measurable results. His expertise in Design Thinking, Lean Six Sigma, and Total Quality Management has driven significant improvements in quality, productivity, and operational cost reduction.
Allan’s extensive portfolio includes transformative collaborations with leading organizations such as the Royal Government of Bhutan, Ministry of Social & Family Development, Health Sciences Authority (HSA), Cisco, Micron, Analog Devices (ADI), Tokyo Electron (TEL), and Lam Research. His contributions have consistently elevated organizational capabilities, delivering tangible outcomes that resonate across industries.
During his tenure with the Singapore Government’s Industry Division at the National Productivity Board (now Enterprise Singapore), Allan played a pivotal role in advancing productivity and quality through his contributions to two major national initiatives: the Cost of Quality industry projects and the Total Quality Process (TQP) program. Collaborating with the electrical and fabricated metals industries, Allan successfully helped halve their quality costs, setting a benchmark for operational excellence in these sectors. He also introduced Lean management practices and Total Quality Management, empowering organizations to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and drive overall performance improvements.
Allan further advanced his career through senior roles in globally respected corporations, where he led large-scale organizational transformations. At IBM, he served as Global Program Manager and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, developing and institutionalizing best practices for productivity improvement. At Microsoft, he led as APAC Shared Services Group Manager, overseeing operations, quality, and customer experience enhancement across the Asia-Pacific and Greater China regions. At Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Allan was APAC Regional Quality Manager and Lean Six Sigma Deployment Leader, championing business excellence initiatives that streamlined operations and improved customer satisfaction across the region.
A distinguished educator and trainer, Allan is certified as a TPM Instructor (Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance) and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (North Carolina State University). His expertise has been sought by elite institutions such as NASA, MIT, Apple, Boeing, Ford, Fujitsu, and Syngenta, as well as universities and organizations across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. He has also contributed to global thought leadership through conference presentations and published articles on Lean Management, Total Quality, and Flexible Manufacturing Systems.
Allan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore. As part of a prestigious Colombo Plan training award, he completed a specialized course on Management Consultancy in Productivity Improvement in Japan.
